Nick Harper’s Blog

August 24th, 2007

To call Nick a superlative singer/songwriter could put his highly lauded guitar talent in the shade, and to call him a guitarist’s guitarist might slight his distinctive, soulful voice and passionate songs. Not forgetting the wild ride that is one of his live shows - from personal introspection to biting political satire via a charmingly caustic wit that would make Groucho Marx proud. He often segues from his own compositions to well-loved covers he makes his own - he takes on Presley, Zappa, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Monty Python and Public Enemy (yes, on an acoustic guitar). He also has the alarming ability to break guitar strings almost by sheer force of will… and then change them without dropping a beat. For over a decade, he has been dazzling audiences and reviewers alike with this heady mix of virtuosity, boyish charm, showmanship and sheer bravado. His talent and showmanship were recognised in 2003 with a (Glasgow) Herald Fringe Angel award for excellence in live music during his Edinburgh Festival run. “Harper has so much musicianship in him that it just leaks out all over the place.” The Times

Cy Curnin’s Blog

August 24th, 2007
The Fixx is a British new wave band formed in 1980. The group was formed by college friends Cy Curnin (vocals) and Adam Woods (drums). The pair placed an ad for additional members. Jamie West-Oram (guitar), Rupert Greenall (keyboards) and Charlie Barret (bass) joined the band as a result. Barret left after the first album and was replaced by Dan K. Brown, who remained with the band until 1994.
They are perhaps best remembered for their song “One Thing Leads To Another”, from their most successful album Reach the Beach from 1983. Their other hits are “Red Skies”, “Stand or Fall”, “Saved by Zero”, “Sign of Fire”, “Are We Ourselves?”, “Secret Separation”, “Driven Out”, “How Much Is Enough?” and “Deeper and Deeper” which was featured on the soundtrack of Streets of Fire. “A Letter to Both Sides” appears on the Fletch soundtrack.
The Fixx regularly tour the U.S., and recently celebrated 25 years of making music together. Curnin, West-Oram, Greenall and Woods are now joined by bassist Gary Tibbs (formerly Roxy Music, The Vibrators, Adam & The Ants). Cy Curnin can often be found on stage with a glass of wine in his right hand and an egg shaker in the left.

James Chippendale’s Blog

August 24th, 2007

James Chippendale is president of CSI Entertainment Insurance, one of the country’s largest entertainment and sports insurance brokers and has worked on events;featuring some of the world’s top entertainers including Lollapalooza, Global Gathering, Ultra Music Festival, Austin City Limits Music Festival and concerts featuring Gwen Stefani, REM, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ludacris, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Bob Dylan, Motley Crue, Nelly, and Coldplay. James also provides risk management for some of the world’s top athletes including Lance Armstrong and the Discovery Channel Cycling Team.

In March of 2000, James was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia. His doctors gave him a 50% chance of survival but after three rounds of intense chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant from a German donor, James came back healthier and stronger and ready to join the battle in helping those who helped him.

James devotes a great deal of his time to "the cause" - the need for more cancer research dollars and providing patients in need with the same opportunity that he had: access to quality doctors and funding for treatments and medications.  He has brought attention to the issue with appearances on ABC and Fox News, highly unusual forums such as The Howard Stern Radio and TV show as well as being a noted speaker for Leukemia and Bone Marrow Foundations Worldwide.
